To start off class, we played a 'get to know you' game where we learned that Fidel and Salvador speak a dialect from their town in Guerrero as a native language so actually English is their 3rd language. They learned both Spanish and English in New York!
Only Diana and Marcelino came on time. All other students thought the class was on the 3rd floor. So we got a late start. But once we dove in, everyone was into the lesson and happy to make small talk. This is a good way to build speaking confidence. Even native speakers don't know how to make small talk confidently.
Looking forward to next week!
